My very first sighting of a blue-ringed Octopus. I was amazed with the electrifying blue colour of the rings. I took 20 or so shots and was determined to finally get a shot I was happy with. Hugo's Trench, Julian Rocks, Byron Bay, NSW. Shot with Nikon D70 in Ikelite housing w/single Ikelite 125 strobe. Photocomp January '05 - Open

These tiny tropical shrimps (Periclemenes soror) are found along the NSW coast in summer on the underside of seastars, always changing their colors to suit the coloring of their hosts. Pinkish/purple stars have shrimps as per picture, red seastars have red shrimps etc. Equipment: Nikonos III, 35mm lens with 2:1 (double life-size magnification - not 1:2) extension tube, single flash. Apparently this species (Ceratosoma brevicaudatum) is endemic to the south western coast of WA. This is only the second time I've ever seen one!! The nudibranch was captured with an Olympus C-750UZ with built-in flash. Location was Quinn's Reef just north of Mindarie, WA. Depth was a little over 5 metres. Photocomp January '05 - Open
