Twenty minutes drive from the Adelaide GPO and you're in the Adelaide Hills where you can sample fresh, organic produce, experience the changing seasons and enjoy the panoramic views of the hillsides draped with steep vineyards and orchards.

Then there is the Barossa Valley of course. t's no secret that the Barossa produces some of Australia's finest wines and presents a range of the most convivial festivals. You can discover this region's heritage in local restaurants, over 60 cellar doors, galleries and other attractions.

A little under two hours comfortable driving from Adelaide will bring you to the historic settlements of the Clare Valley. Wine writer James Halliday likens this South Australian region to Tuscany; exquisite heritage towns, stylish cellar doors and numerous, delightful accommodation options.

The Fleurieu Peninsula sweeps south from Adelaide down to Cape Jervis where you can catch the ferry Kangaroo Island. This is seriously good wine country with over 60 cellar doors, restaurants and produce outlets. There are well signed conservation parks, and the coastline offers vast beaches for walking, surfing and swimming. There's whale watching near Victor Harbor from June to October.
