DRT Show 2011 Hong Kong - post event report

The annual prominent event for diving communities in Hong Kong, the Diving, Resort & Travel Expo (“DRT Show”) and the concurrent event of the China Dive Expo, has stage its 2nd edition from July 8 to 10, 2011 at the Hong Kong Exhibition Centre, featuring over 150 top tiered exhibitors and brands from around 23 countries and regions which is the only successful dive event showcasing their latest dive equipment, water sport equipment, up size about 20% over last year’s totals. The DRT Show is also dedicating a large part of the agenda to marine conservation with world class experts from diving and marine conservationists sharing their insights about water sport and marine conversation in Greater China and Hong Kong.

The DRT Show kicked-off with a lively and entertaining performance of chinese traditional lion dance, which was then followed by an introductory welcome speech by Mr. Jason Chong, Director of DRT Show, Mr. Alfred Au, Vice Chairman of Hong Kong Underwater Association (HKUA). Mr.Teguh Wardoyo, Minister of culture and tourism Indoneisa, Mr. Clement Lee, Chairman of Malaysia Sabah Tourism Board. which, was together launch the expo for all visitors and exhibitors.

The Only Dive Event Showcases New Water Sport and Diving Products in Asia

The 2011 event is the second time taken place in Hong Kong and is one of the major expo for the scuba diving calendar. The DRT show held from July 8 to July 10 which is considered to be a must-see for diving enthusiasts as well as amateurs who are interested about an underwater adventure. During the expo, more than 150 top-level exhibitors and brands including dive resorts, tourism boards, diving organizations and equipment manufacturers have showcase their revolutionary and innovative diving equipment, water sport equipment and marine instruments, the event also focus on the impact of sustainable development on the underwater environment.

“With the robust development of diving industry in the region, we are excited to bring the premiere diving, resort and travel expo to Hong Kong once again and serves a platform to gather industry experts and diving enthusiasts exchanging information about underwater. Call for Action on Marine Conservation

Not only new water sport and diving product showcase, the show also serves as a platform for educating the public about the importance and our collective responsibility to protect our global ocean in the face of climate change and reckless human activities degrading the global marine environment. Significant decline in dolphin and shark abundance in the region during the past decade raised the public awareness about the seriously drop. Under the hot topic of environmentalists protested about Hong Kong’s plans to expand its airport which will seriously further endanger the local rare Chinese white dolphins, DRT Show has host seminars conducted by the Hong Kong Underwater Association, Hong Kong Dolphin Conservations Society and Shark Savers sharing strategic insights on how the region should well placed to respond to the enormous demand for marine conservation. The Japan tsunami disaster is the another event highlight to discuss the tsunami and impacts on marine ecosystem from seminars and public discussion.

The DRT Show shows numerous awesome vacation beach resorts, introduces island travel experience sharing as an holiday paradise, with pleasant tropical climate, beaches and palm trees outlining the diversity and beauty of the landscapes, the richness of the local cultures and the friendly people and safety to travel. Island resort operators from Fiji, Maldives, Thailand, Philllipines, Malaysia, Australia, Indonesia, Palau, PNG, Egypt and etc. participated alongside other exhibitors.
