Prospecting with scuba

I'm buying a metal detector soon but I can't make up my mind if I should get a waterproof (200ft) detector or a land detector!

I would like to know from members if anyone has any experience and luck in underwater prospecting with scuba?

Could there be undiscovered goldfields in the ocean?

Would it be a waste of time looking for gold underwater?
