Newcsatle Dive Spots Part 2

If your interested in more Newcastle Dive sites then why not check these out.
There are a few wrecks in the Catherine Hill Bay area The Lubra, the Shamrock, and the Wallarah.
Just out the heads of Swansea are Blue Groper Reef, Yvonnes Reef and on the breakwater is Lucys Wall.
Within Newcastle itself there are dives at Nobbies Reef but as there are no boat dive operators in Newcastle itself it makes for a bloody long swim so stick to shorey off Newcastle Baths or the southern point of Nobbies Beach.
Once you get up to Nelsons Bay this is where things get fun with shore dives at Fly Point, Halifax and the Pipeline. These are breeding grounds for the local fish with sponge and coral gardens. They are also marine parks.
Offshore ( boat dives ofcourse ) there a re a number of great dives such as bubble cave, Spider Cave, Looking Glass Cave and Turtle Cave.
For wrecks there is the Macleay, the Wauchope and many others the entrences to the bay are littered with shipwrecks ranging from 5-35 meters.
Broughton Island is a place where you can basically dive all your round, when there is a southerly swell just go to the northern end and vice versa.
There is an excellant Dive Shop in the Bay if you go to the back of D'albora Marina then you should find it no problems. I also am led to believe that they may soon be hiring DPVs.

A few quick questions just to clarify sorry...

At north catherine hill bay, on a really small swell obviously, is there a current that heads out to see? That is, a lot of beaches at the northern end have a current that pushes you out to see.

And is it worth snorkelling at Swansea? If so, where about exactly? I'm not too keen to just jump into the inlet and get swept about faster that I can swim! Or do you mean on 'blacksmiths' side of the breakwall?

Any other good easily accessable snorkelling sites would be greatly appreciated!!!!

-Thanks in advance, Chris Humphries.
