Diving Magnetic Island

I am thinking of going to stay on Magnetic island and i was just wondering if anyone had any tips for this.

Firstly is it any good and worth spending a week there? I am not travlleing all the way to Cairns and i though this would be a good place to start, i am not really into live aboards (cronic seas sickness) and i would just want a day trip type dive and with a guide please.

If anyone has any suggestions please help as i am a bit lost at the moment.

Hi Paul,

best suggestion I can make is to conact Paul Cronin at his dive shop in T/ville.....now what was the name of his shop...? Pro Dive I believe. It is on the way to the casino on your right hand side just as the road goes left towards the casino.

Is it worth spending a WEEK there diving? not really as there just isn't enough worth while dive spots. However there is a couple of spots worth diving, but it wouldn't take you a whole week to check them out. I'd put 2/3 days max aside. A guide? Well I hope Paul or 1 of his staff could help you there.

Have you considered diving the Yongala?(if ou haven't already) There is a reasonably successful dive operation running quick day trips to the wreck. Only 40mins aparently. So if you take your sea sickness tablets nice and early you should be ok.

Any reason why you are not travelling as far north as cairns?

I used to be a Townsville local so any thing I can do to help just ask.

Cheers Graham.
