Marine research tourism

Hi all,

I was wondering if Underwater Subscribers would like to contribute my project titled ‘Development of marine research tourism across Australia’.

Overall this project is looking at the potential for marine research as an attraction for tourists across Australia. Tourists can range from holiday makers, wildlife tourists, school students, volunteers to trained scientists. Future marine research tourism development aims to increase public awareness, public policy, benefits to marine research programs, opportunities for marine interpretation and opportunities for marine tour operators.

Participation involves an online survey that takes about fourty minutes and then possible later discussions regarding prospective visions, missions, products and scenarios for marine research tourism across Australia. The survey looks into factors that affect marine research tourism and is at http://www.marine-research-tourism.com/Survey.php.

More information is at http://www.marine-research-tourism.com.

If anyone has some notable thoughts they would like to give on the subject that would be really appreciated. Please contact me at anytime.

Thanks and have a good day!

Peter

Dear Pete, Marine Research will always be a factor to Marine Tourism...anything is, especially if it can make a buck. To take the 'negative' view that there isn't much left to see, let alone research, beckons the new approach of not 'restricting' any forms of fishing in any quantity. But to ENHANCE an underwater world beyong the natural to the bountiful. Example. Section of bush scrub is logged, flatened and left to rejuvenate of its own accord. Alternative is that it is turned into a productive farm or a botannical garden...both better than before. Sadly, all that is done underwater is harvesting by fishermen and spearos and whinging scuba divers taking pretty pictures about an ever dwindling environment caused by fishermen and spearos. My answer, stop blowing bubbles and create an underwater world fit to feed and entertain a world of 50 billion people!

Hopefully more research will be done throughout the world so as to keep the marine life we have and to help us rejuvenate where needed after all its what we all need and want!

Regards,

Emma
