Turtle Conservation Malaysia

Did you know the Leatherback and Olive ridley turtles are on the brink of extinction in Malaysia! And the Greens and Hawksbills are not far behind!

All turtle populations have been reduced by over 80% in the last 50 years mainly because of egg collection, tourism and fishing.

I run a turtle project in the Perhentian Islands which is focused on saving Green turtles in the Perhentian Islands Marine Park. We are adopting a three phase project using both education and protection at each phase.

Phase 1 - Protect nesting mothers and their eggs on Tanjung Tukah, educate all visiting tourists and start the after-school marine club program at the local primary school.

Phase 2 - Establish the migration route of the turtles, educate all tourists visiting the Perhentian Islands and expand the after-school marine clubs to mainland schools.

Phase 3 - Protect the major feeding grounds for the turtles, educate all visiting tourists and conduct the after school marine club at the local schools.

Seahorses - Ethereal BeautySeahorses - Ethereal Beauty
My ultimate diving dream is to meet orcas underwater. While I am waiting for this divine meeting with sea giants, I am fascinated with tiny graceful creatures called Hippocampus. Their name derives from Greek for seahorse and literally translates as horse sea monster.
