sealing mask with a mo.

Hi everyone, were (wife and I) are new to underwater and diving..ie, about to do our open water certificate. My question is, does anyone have info on how masks can be sealed agianst a moustache? Or do the better quality ones seal regardless of having a moustache or not. previously, when snorkeling, I have used vasoline smeared onto my top mo. this does work well, but can get messy! lol

we haven't yet bought our gear, so thought now might be a good time to ask.

thankyou for any help or advice. Marty.

There's no way you can do it with any guarantee there'll be no leakage. Most masks leak a little anyway, even for those of us without moustaches. Good luck anyhow

Hi mate

I am a Diving instructor for 10 years with a Goaty , my mask usually seals No problem , many people ask me , I say buy a good Quality dive mask ( make sure 100% silicone skirt) some cheaper ones are 50% silicone + other plastics and not so soft and don't seal so well.

Some other customers I know have used VASALINE (from chemist etc) however when use this just be aware that even though no problem for you Vasaline is a Petroleum Based Product so will rot the silicone so Not last as long as it normally would .(still should last years not months but more care is needed in washing all vasaline off after the Dive)

Hope that Helps otherwise shave a Small gap under nose helps the edge of skirt seal

More than Two Fish at Bunaken and ManadoMore than Two Fish at Bunaken and Manado
When I first decided to visit the tropical paradise of Bunaken Marine Park and Lembeh Strait, it seemed as if nobody had heard of it. However, once I began to plan the trip I slowly heard more and more about the place. Deep dramatic walls, 30 degree water with 30 m visibility, and bizarre creatures were just some of the descriptions. My excitement grew.
